GYEONGHOERU PAVILLION
Gyeounguoeru was the place where king used to threw formal banquets for foreign envoys. Originally a small pavilion,Gyeounghoeru was greatly expanded in 1412 under King Taejong. The pavilion was burnt down during the Japanese invasion in 1592,but rebuilt in 1867 as wooden two floor structure with a floor area of 931 square meters. The first floor has no walls but 48 stone colums. Gyeounghoeru has been built according to the principles of I Ching ( Book of Changes) It says that three bays at the center dividing the floor are symbolizing heaven ,earth and a man and 12 bays around them symbolize 12 months of the year.On the roof are there are 11 mythical creatures,the largest number of any traditional building in Korea. The king and his party enjoyed the view to Mount Inwangsan near close by.
